Character Descriptions

Willy Wonka

The sly, charming star of the show. His larger-than-life persona can go from charming and comical, to magically mysterious and dark. The enigmatic and eccentric owner of the world-famous Wonka Chocolate Factory. He is both charismatic and unpredictable.

Charlie Bucket

Charlie is sweet, smart, hopeful and loving. A boy with wonderful innocence and vulnerability. Charlie comes from a poor family but dreams of a better life. He is selfless, compassionate, and possesses an unwavering moral compass. Charlie's integrity and pure heart lead him to be the final Golden Ticket winner.

Grandpa Joe

Charlie's kind-hearted and supportive grandfather. Grandpa Joe is full of life and adventure, and he is Charlie's companion on the tour of the chocolate factory.

Violet Beauregarde

Sassy, forceful, rude. Takes advantage of others, full of attitude. Violet is a world-champion gum chewer and boasts of her accomplishments. Violet's obsession with fame and her belief that she is the best.

Mr Beauregarde

Violet's father, who is just as competitive and boastful as his daughter. He is obsessed with her success and is eager to capitalise on her newfound fame.

Augustus Gloop

Augustus is known for his insatiable appetite, and his love for food often leads him into trouble. German accent required.

Mrs Gloop

Augustus Gloop's overindulgent Mother, who is constantly trying to satisfy their son's insatiable appetite. German accent needed

Veruca Salt

Veruca is used to getting anything she wants and throws tantrums when she doesn't. Russian accent required

Mr Salt

Veruca's affluent father, who indulges her every whim and showers her with expensive gifts. He believes that money can solve any problem. Finds it impossible to say no, giving in to every ridiculous demand his daughter makes. Russian Accent required

Mike Teavee

A technology-obsessed boy who secures one of the Golden Tickets. Mike is obsessed with television, video games, and gadgets.

Mrs Teavee

Mikes mum, She needs a drink to get through the day and deal with her outrageous son. Tense, extreme, and hilarious. But does struggle to connect with her son due to his obsession with technology.

Mrs Bucket (will also be Ensemble Act 2)

Charlie Bucket's warm, loving, kind-hearted nurturing mother. She is always trying to maintain an energetic positivity

Josephine, Georgina, George (will also be Ensemble Act 2)

Charlie’s loving and very poor Grandparents.

Jerry (will also be Ensemble Act 2)

A reporter who is the bearer of bad news for Charlie's golden ticket ventures but is full of wacky energy while doing so.

Cherry Sundae (will also be Ensemble Act 2)

A zany and quick-witted reporter who adds a delightful dash of humour to the piece. The reporter is "on the scene" for all of our golden ticket winners.

Mrs Green (will also be Ensemble Act 2)

The poor, second-hand vegetable salesperson that Charlie buys the only food his family can afford. While a kind woman cares about Charlie and his family, her priority is making a living.

Ensemble

The ensemble is essential to the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with many great scenes throughout the production. Some ensemble roles include Oompa Loompas, Gum Chompin Divas, Reporters, Squirrels, Bavarians

Kids Principal Parts

 'Charlie' - Male performer - School year 6-8 at time of performance dates. Must have an unbroken singing voice.
 Other kids' Principal parts - School year 7-11 at time of performance dates
There is no children's ensemble in this production of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.
Dancers, Adult Ensemble and Oompa-Loompas are age 18+ only
